Here are some simple yet effective tips for golfers who play left handed and are just getting started.

It does not matter which side you prefer when it comes to your golf swing as the mechanics are the generally the same.

You should master the fundamentals of the game before starting the address the more advanced aspects of the game.

Keeping you head down throughout your entire swing is one of the most important tips for a golfer when they are starting out and applies to both left and right handed players.

The most common mistake new players make is to left their head to watch where the ball is going.

The key solid hitting is to allow your body and hips to rotate fully as they come through the ball and into the follow through.

Not doing this properly is the second most common mistake that new players make and as a left handed golfer you should rotate to the right as fully as possible to give power to your swing making sure you lead with your hips and then let your hands follow. This is one of the keys to hitting the ball solidly.

Although you start your swing with your right hand it is very important that you finish your swing with you dominant left hand so that the power of your dominant side will combine to ensure you drive through the ball at contact.

When you finish your swing you want to make sure that you follow through completely so that you finish on the balls of your feet rather than flat footed or on your heels. The reason for this is that you will know your hips have made the full rotation required in order to gain maximum power.

A few words in course management never go astray for left handed golfers.

Most holes on the golf course you will find will have holes that veer to the right or the left. These holes are known as ‘doglegs’ and for a left handed golfer to learn how to play them effectively they must understand how to hit a ‘draw’ shot.

A draw shot is such where the ball will curve in the air and for left handed golfers this is to the left and to the right for right handed players.

When learning about this type of shot most of the advice is given to right handed players so you must reverse the instructions and then take the time to practice.

Remember that you will never play your best golf being a left hander unless you get yourself some left handed golf clubs. You can buy these online or in various sporting stores.
